My Friends Got Famous
Seven years ago I took photographs of my friends making music for the first time. In the beginning it was just the three of them and the band had no name. They went on to call themselves by their surnames: AnnenMayKantereit.
We all went to the same school and I had just taken up photography. I had no ambitions as a musician and was never a part of the band in that way. I was the one to bear witness. I was their constant companion. As a photographer and as a friend. On every tour and on holiday. Because none of us believed what was happening. We needed proof.
This is not a book about fame. This is a book about coming of age. A book about friendship. A book about loss and growth. About holding together and being on the road. This is my experience. These are my friends. They became famous and this is our life now. Nothing changed. Everything changed. The locations, they are constantly changing and always buzzing. We are never at home.
